Craziness

I can't believe that it has been so long since I posted. Things have been a bit busy here. Let's see I drove up to a small town north of here for the day to go to the local quilt show. It was a nice but stressful day since I went by myself with the two kids. We celebrated Father's day with both sets of parents, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday. Now we have my friend and her two kids staying with us for a few days while she gets everything taken care of for moving. Alex has a bit of a cold and I think I have caught it also, so I have spent much of the morning napping and reading. My husband has been kind enough to help out with the kids and even went on a Chick Fil A run to get me my latest food obsession. I finished another small quilt top that will be given as a baby gift, I'll post pictures later. Other than that I have been just running around and working, trying to stay cool in the 115+ degree weather.

Sewing for Alex

Last summer I made several pairs of shorts for Alex and he has been wearing them so far this summer. Today I noticed that one of those pairs had gotten pretty tight so while the kids were napping I made him two more pairs of shorts. These go together pretty quickly since I put the two pattern pieces together and don't even have to make a side seam. the only thing that takes a bit of time is that Alex requires pockets for all of his cars and such so I put patch pockets on the side. One pair is made out of some seersucker train fabric that I got at Walmart last summer, the other pair is out of some denim that I got from freecycle. The pattern is New Look 6641, I have made a couple other pairs of shorts from this pattern and like it.

And so a boy finds love with a power tool

Today after I finished hanging a curtain rod in Alex's room he discovered the cordless drill. I have to say that it was love at first sight. He particularly liked pushing the button and having it run. He seems to be taking after his papa Ron who has just about every power tool known to man!

UFO Finish

I have made it a goal of mine to get some UFO's finished before starting new projects. Tonight I finished a UFO that I started in September/October of 2004. It was a Christmas block exchange for a bee group called The Cut Up's. I organized the swap and the rules were that the blocks had to be 12" finished in the quilter's choice of pattern and the colors had to be red, green and gold. After exchanging the blocks I had a hard time deciding how to set them and I finally found the print that I used for a border and sashing. After I got the top completed it sat around for a while again waiting to be quilted then I got in on Judi's 30 quilts for $30 and she just returned it to me about a week ago and I finished binding and putting the label on it tonight. The back is pieced out of a bunch of Christmas fat quarters that I had that I wasn't really in love with, but they made a great backing.

Happy Memorial Day

Hi all, I just wanted to say Happy Memorial day to all of you in the US. We had a great barbecue here at our house with family and friends.

My kids favorite toys

Abbie is 8 months old already! I can hardly believe it. As I was putting the kids to bed tonight I got to thinking about their favorite lovies and how I will probably not remember them in 10 or 20 years so I decided to write about them now while I remember. Alex's favorite lovie is a grey and white striped cat from Kohls. It was given to him by his nana Jan who spoils all of her grandchildren mercilessly. If I had known how attached he would become to it I would have bought another one when she gave it to us. I think he got it when he was around 5 months old. he pretty much sleeps with it every night and either calls it kitty or Pippo (from the Pippo books by Helen Oxenbury). When you ask him what sounds a cat makes he will very happily say meow, meow.

Abbie's favorite toy is a small pink bunny that was given to her by my friend Heather. The bunny came in a really cute blankie that is velvety on one side and furry on the other side with a pocket on the front that the bunny goes in. The bunny has a rattle and I will often wake up to hear Abbie shaking her bunny.

Help me chose a layout

I have finished all of the blocks for my mystery quilt, now I need to decide if I should put it together the way the instructions say to or use another layout. So I have decided to let you vote, there is a pole on the side of my blog for you to let me know what your favorite layout is.
