Getting Ready To Go
On Tuesday we leave for our big month long adventure to Wyoming and St. Lucia. I am not sure how I feel about it. On one hand it will be nice to see my friend and it will be nice to have a mommy break in St Lucia. On the other hand I have never left my children for this length of time and Abbie is still breastfeeding. Also I am worried about the weather in the Tetons, I don't like being cold so I am not sure how I am going to do. I just keep reminding myself that I am lucky to have the opportunity to leave town on vacation for such a length of time. I also tell myself that Suzy will do a great job of taking care of my kids for me and that I am very grateful to her for being willing to watch them so I can go to my brother's wedding. So far I have a 4 page excell list of the things that I need to bring. I am seriously worried that it all won't fit into the back of my Xterra. (I just ordered a roof top carrier to use, it should be here Monday). Wish me luck, I feel much better now that I ordered that carrier.

We are SO looking forward to seeing all of you! Although, I too would be anxious (and will be) the first time I leave my children for such a long period... no matter who it's with... so I understand. Remember, it's VACATION, it's suppose to be RELAXING! (Ha! Like there's such a thing as a vacation for Mom... oh wait... you're getting that, right? When you're in St. Lucia ;).
Anyway, about packing. From someone who's spent, what, like THREE MONTHS traveling this year (with two small boys), I think I've learned to take LESS, like HALF of what I think I'll need. REALLY. Packing lighter is my new goal. You've actually reminded me that I was going to type a list of what "NOT" to bring with me... the things I always bring and never actually use! So. I'd say FOR SURE, bring less toys, less food, and less clothes. Really like three or four outfits per climate and just a few road toys. Oh yeah. Also, pack a few new toys to toss in the back seat when you REALLY need a break. Hmm... what else, oh yes, I always bring my own pillow and comfy blanket (quilt), because I just plain sleep better with them. But, I've found I can pack them (compressed) in a duffle bag / suitcase to save space.
The rooftop carrier sounds like a GREAT idea!
See you soon!
Suzy :)
Best wishes! Can't wait to hear about your trip!
